SAQCCNDT provides professional NDT designations, which are underpinned by an National Qualifications Framework (NQF) qualification.
Professional Designation Requirements
The NDT Career path is based on NQF qualification, level certification & experience.
Each Designation represents increasing expertise, responsibility and professional competence in non-destructive testing.
Candidate NDT Practitioner
Student level NDT Candidate entering the NDT fraternity
Requirements
Matric Mathematics & Physical Science (passed at minimum of 4)
And
Working towards an NQF qualification in NDT / Science / Engineering
OR
Level Certification in NDT.
Pr. Junior Operator (NDT)
Entry-Level NDT Professional qualified to perform basic non-destructive testing operations under supervision.
Requirements
NQF 4 having passed Mathematics and Physical Science with at least a 4.
Plus
Certification at Level 1 in one NDT method or in wall thickness measurement or level 2 (limited)
And
Minimum of 6 months of relevant industrial experience in application of NDT methods.
(Evidence of competence through verified work logs or employee references)
Pr. Operator (NDT)
Requirements
NQF 5 in NDT having passed Mathematics and Physical Science with at least a 4.
Plus
Certification at Level 2 in one or more NDT methods
And
Minimum of 2 years of relevant industrial experience in application of NDT methods.
OR
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Certification at Level 2 in two to three NDT methods.
And
Minimum 4 years of relevant industrial NDT experience in application of NDT methods.
Pr. Senior Operator (NDT)
Requirements
NQF 5 in NDT having passed Mathematics and Physical Science with at least a 4
Plus
Certification at Level 2 in two methods with one of the methods being volumetric.
And
Minimum of 2 years of relevant industrial experience in application of NDT methods.
OR
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Certification at Level 2 in 4 Methods, with at least one being volumetric.
And
Minimum 5 years of relevant industrial experience in application of NDT methods.
Pr. Technician (NDT)
Requirements
NQF 6 (National Diploma or Diploma in NDT / Applied Physical Science / Industrial Physics / Metallurgy / Mechanical Engineering).
Plus
Certification at Level 2 in three methods with one volumetric method.
And
Minimum of 2 years of relevant NDT industrial experience in the application of NDT methods.
OR
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
NQF 6 (National Diploma / Diploma in NDT / Applied Science / Industrial Physics / Metallurgy / Mechanical Engineering).
Plus
5 years of relevant NDT industrial experience in two surface and one volumetric methods.
OR
Certification at level 3 in three methods with at least one being volumetric.
And
Minimum of 10 years of relevant NDT Industrial experience.
Pr. Senior Technician (NDT)
Requirements
NQF 6 (National Diploma or Diploma in NDT / Applied Physical Science / Industrial Physics / Metallurgy / Mechanical Engineering).
Plus
Certification at Level 2 in three methods with one volumetric method.
Plus
Certification at Level 3 in one method.
And
Minimum of 2 years of relevant industrial experience in the application of NDT methods.
Pr. Technologist (NDT)
Requirements
NQF 7 (BSc. / B Tech / Advanced Diploma in NDT / Applied Physical Science / Industrial Physics / Metallurgy / Mechanical Engineering).
Plus
Certification at Level 3 in at least three methods with at least one volumetric method.
Plus
Minimum of 3 years of relevant industrial NDT experience.
Pr. Senior Technologist (NDT)
Requirements
NQF 8-10 (MTech / MSc / DTech / PHD) in NDT / Applied Physical Science / Industrial Physics / Metallurgy / Mechanical Engineering).
Plus
Certification at Level 3 in at least three methods with one volumetric method.
Plus
Minimum of 3 years of relevant NDT industrial experience.
